Who is Brendon Ellis?

Hello, I’m Brendon. This seems like a good way to inform you as to who I am, what I stand for, and why all of that matters.

I am someone who recently completed a degree in marketing, but I learned as an incoming freshman to university that I love writing more than anything else. I expect good storytelling and I do my best to deliver that. I struggled heavily through every single English class I had though school, even in university. I never truly understood the functions of grammar and how to properly create sentences, but I could always tell a story. It took a lot of time and practice to better my writing skills and to find my voice as a writer. I only have one published novel and it took me four years of working on it inconsistently. If there hadn’t been a pandemic and I hadn’t been able to find a new job for majority of a year, I would probably still be working on it.

Now I want to tell you about who I am as a person and my hobbies.

I was luckily raised by two parents who gave me plenty of opportunities to fail. I was a horrible student for anything I was not interested in and that allowed me to receive the most average grades possible until university. Marketing was something that came naturally to me and I saw it as an opportunity to better my career in writing. When it comes to hobbies, I have always been a gamer boy, I used to do archery, but only after my dad and I watched a robin hood movie to get us inspired. I am someone who enjoys working out, purely because my brother, Mitchel forced me to start lifting and exercising regularly. A few years ago I found a new hobby that I instantly fell in love with, Dungeons and Dragons. I leaned that my dad had the same hobby when he was younger and it is one of the most fun things in the world to play, especially with the right people.

What I stand for can help you get a better understanding of who I am.

As a guy who has lived in the middle of Ohio for over a decade, plus being a foreigner in this country, there’s a few differences in perspective. First and foremost, I am someone who supports equality and I believe that no one is worth more than another. I was raised in Catholic schools all the way up through high school and to keep that story short, I am no longer a religious person, but what matters to me from all those years was the golden rule. Something along the lines of, ‘treat others how you’d like to be treated’. My dad taught me a different way of saying that, “Jesus said, don’t be a dick.” and I still follow that phrase. The only way I’m going to treat anyone differently is if they treat others badly.

Now to the last bit, why does this matter?

I would rather have you know exactly who I am, so you don’t have to worry about if our beliefs can go together. I also think, by understanding where I come from you can have a better understanding of my writing. I hint or reference the things that are important to making me who I am and I hope to grow not only as an author, but as a person. I want to share that experience with you.
